A powerful manoeuvre that many strong wrestlers assign as their finisher, the Sit-out Powerbomb can be a devastating move which focuses on damaging the back and head of the opponent.

The move was famously assigned to former WWE superstar Batista, who dubbed it the Batista Bomb, defeating the likes of John Cena and Triple H with the move. However, if you want to see a seriously good looking variation, former TNA Knockout Awesome Kong’s Awesome Bomb finisher is one to drool over.

With the move being categorised within the high-angle powerbomb techniques, the wrestler will pull the opponent by their head towards them. It is here that they will then use the opponent’s hair to place their head in between the wrestler’s legs.

Once this position has been achieved, the wrestler will wrap their arms around the abdomen area of the opponent and lift them up. The lift will cause the opponent to flip up onto the wrestler’s shoulders, so that they are seated. The wrestler can then either spin around slightly or will go straight for the finish.

Now that this has been achieved, the wrestler will then lift the opponent slightly higher so that they can sit out, driving the opponent’s back onto the canvas as they do. The move is then usually followed by the wrestler either grasping the opponent’s legs for the pin, placing their hands on the opponent’s shoulders for the pin attempt or simply rolling the opponent away.

  • Also known as: Seated Powerbomb/ Sitdown Powerbomb/ Awesome Bomb/ Batista Bomb
  • Famous users: Batista, Awesome Kong, Kota Ibushi, Droz, Stevie Richards, Chris Sabin, Shinjiro Otani, Giant Bernard
  • Finished off: Kane, John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Madison Rayne, Gail Kim, Chaz
  • H&B Rating: 7

Watch more variations:

Batista’s Batista Bomb– Batista usually drops the opponent first and then sits out, which was mainly due to the leg injury he sustained from performing the move.
Chris Sabin’s Running Sit-out Powerbomb
– This sees Sabin apply the lift of the move, but then charge forward before slamming the opponent down.
Shinjiro Otani’s Spiral Sit-out Powerbomb– Here, the wrestler spins around with the opponent on their shoulders, before slamming them down to the canvas.
Giant Bernard’s Bernard Bomb– Bernard elevates the opponent a little higher in the air than a conventional Sit-out Powerbomb before sitting out.
Brother Ray’s Avalanche Sit-out Powerbomb– A dangerous variation, this sees the opponent planted from the top rope.
Chris Hero’s Sit-out Powerbomb– This shows another set up to the move, where the opponent goes for a hurracanrana but is instead planted with the powerbomb variation.
